Abstract

The Biomedical Technician’s Assessment Instrument Package includes the foundations of survey instruments, survey scripts, and reference materials used in the assessment of biomedical technician’s impact on hospitals in Honduras, Rwanda, and Cambodia. In these studies, impact was defined as the technician’s ability to decrease out-of-service medical equipment in the hospital. For each assessment, the instruments were tailored to the specific country program yet the fundamental questions, presented here, were always included to ensure comparability across countries and years. Demographic and technical information about the hospital is taken from the hospital, technician, and hospital administrators. The status of the medical equipment within five departments (operating theatres, radiology, emergency, maternal and neonatal intensive care, and clinical labs) is reported by the technician and the head of each department. A work history of corrective maintenance, preventative maintenance, and management actions were reported by the technicians. This package includes the instrument and the script for each of the seven fundamental surveys. The instrument was used during the survey while the script was used as a training tool for each interviewer and translator. The instrument was translated into the appropriate language and was given to the interviewee upon request.
